MONROVIA, Liberia–Speaking on Thursday at the Ministry Regular Press Briefing, Deputy Minister Daniel Sando has addressed the growing public concern over why Bryant McGill has not been arrested, while Ministry of Agriculture contractor Sando Kromah has already been jailed on statutory rape charges.
The Deputy Minister quoted police authorities as saying that the two cases are different. Sando said, in one case the evidence was available while the suspect was caught in the room with the victim. With the case of Suspended Deputy Minister Bryant McGill, Sando noted it is necessary to conduct all investigations to establish probable cause while the Police have no interest in who the accused is.
Daniel Sando remarks followed criticism that Bryant McGill has not been placed in detention while Kromah was arrested and charged. Minister Sando stressed that the case are not the same and warned the public in drawing premature conclusion.
Kromah, 34, was charged with statutory rape after police said he assaulted a 14-year-old girl at his Vai Town apartment on Sept. 24. The medical report also confirmed signs of abuse, and he has been remanded to the Monrovia Central Prison.
Police have yet to release any details regarding the investigation involving McGill.
